John Alberto Leguizamo is a Colombian actor, voice actor, comedian, film producer, playwright and screenwriter. He was born in Bogotá and emigrated with his family to the United States. He went to live in Queens, New York and later studied at New York University.
He started working in comedy on the club circuit in New York and made his first appearance on camera in an episode of Miami Vice, he later made a small appearance in Mixed Blood, in addition, he had minor appearances in Casualties of War and Die Hard.
Since 1991, the actor has begun to move up the career ladder. First, with the independent film Hangin' with the Homeboys, directed by Joseph Vasquez. In the same year, he debuted his show Mambo Mouth, in which he portrayed different Latino characters. Leguizamo won several awards and the show was recorded by HBO.
In 1995, he created and premiered the series House of Buggin, the program featured a variety of entirely Latin American comedians. Even with the nominations for important awards, such as the Emmy, the program was canceled after one season.
As a voice actor, Leguizamo voiced the mouse in Dr. Dolittle in 1998 and also to the character Sid in the animation Ice Age, from 2002. Also in 2002, he co-starred in the film Collateral Damage, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Between 2015 and 2017, he participated in the television series Bloodline with 3 seasons. In 2018, he participated in the one-season series Waco, and most recently, he participated in the British Amazon Prime Video thriller series, The Power, which premiered on March 31, 2023.
