Michael Joseph Garcia is a Republican politician and former U.S. Navy pilot, born in 1976 in Granada Hills, California, son of Mexican immigrants. Educated at the U.S. Naval Academy and Georgetown University, Garcia served in the Navy between 1998 and 2012, conducting combat missions in Iraq. After his military career, he worked at Raytheon until he began his political career.

In 2020, Garcia was elected as a representative of California's 27th district in a special election, facing and defeating Democratic candidate Christy Smith three times in a row. He supports conservative policies on issues such as immigration and abortion, and in 2021 he voted against Donald Trump's second impeachment after the attack on the Capitol.

Garcia has taken a stand against Medicaid expansion and supported increased surveillance at the border with Mexico, as well as opposing the DREAM Act. Despite this, he voted in favor of same-sex marriage in 2022. Garcia is critical of tax policy that limits the deduction of state and local taxes, especially unfavorable to Californians. In foreign policy, he voted in favor of Israel and questioned financial support for Ukraine without more transparency.

Married to Rebecca, an interior designer, and father of two, Garcia resides with his family in Santa Clarita, California.
