The Libre Initiative Action, an advocacy group affiliated with the political network of Charles Koch, a businessman for one of the largest private companies in the United States, announced on Monday (4) four endorsements for key congressional races. The group is supporting the re-election of Reps. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.), Monica De La Cruz (R-Texas) and Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.), as well as Nevada Republican Senate candidate Sam Brown.
The four Republicans stand out because of the jurisdictions in which they run, where the Latino vote will play a crucial role and could influence the results of elections, including the presidential race. Jose Mallea, senior advisor at Libre Initiative Action, stressed the importance of the Latino vote in shaping the national political landscape, according to a report by The Hill.
The group’s statement highlights the need for elected officials and candidates to understand the demands of the Latino community, expressing a yearning for solutions that boost the economy, expand opportunities and empower Latino families. Strategic endorsements are aimed at achieving majorities in the chambers of Congress and mobilizing Latino voters in support of candidates.
Also, according to the publication, the re-election of Maria Elvira Salazar would consolidate Republican control over a district in South Florida. Monica De La Cruz, a representative of a historically Democratic district since 1903, seeks to maintain her position after reversing the record in 2022. Juan Ciscomani, a younger, more conservative Latino politician, will face a possible rematch in 2022. Sam Brown, an Afghanistan veteran, is running in Nevada, where Democrats cannot afford to lose ground.
Libre Initiative Action highlights the importance of having principled political advocates in Congress, mobilizing volunteers and Latino voters in support of candidates. The statement highlights that these politicians are committed to promoting policies that stimulate economic growth and opportunity while limiting government intervention. In addition, the organization expresses pride in supporting these candidates and hopes to use its influence to strengthen popular support for them.
