On Sunday, February 5th, the 65th annual Grammy Awards ceremony took place with major awards and nominations for Latin music. The first performance of the night was by Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny. He sang a medley of the songs “El Apagón” and “Después de la Playa” and, during the performance, there were several “cabezudos” dancing with him, traditional costumes from Las Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián.

The artist surpassed Daddy Yankee, Farruko, Maluma and Rauw Alejandro and won the award for best urban music album with his fourth studio album “Un Verano Sin Ti”. It was also nominated for album of the year, the night's top award, and, if it won, would become the first Spanish-language album to win the award.

Another important nomination from the artist was for best pop solo performance, with “Moscow Mule”, which he lost to British singer Adele. His fourth album was highly critically acclaimed and hit records on the Billboard charts. Bad Bunny also achieved record ticket sales for his tour, grossing over $435.3 million with over 2 million tickets sold.

The film “Encanto” also won some awards with its songs in Spanish. The animation, which was very successful among the public, also pleased the academy and received three awards: Best Soundtrack for Visual Media, Best Compiled Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Song Written for Visual Media.

Brazilian band Boca Livre and Panamanian artist Rubén Blades won the award for best Latin pop album with their joint album “Pasieros”. The award for best Latin jazz album went to Arturo O'Farrill with the album “Fandango At The Wall In New York”.
