Michelle Lujan Grisham has served as the 32nd governor of the state of New Mexico since 2019 and is a member of the Democratic Party. Lujan Grisham had a remarkable political career before taking office as governor.

She served as a U.S. representative in New Mexico’s first congressional district from 2013 to 2019 and also held prominent positions, such as state secretary of health from 2004 to 2007 and Bernalillo County commissioner from 2010 to 2012.

She grew up in New Mexico, coming from a prominent political family in the state, with deep roots in the region. Her education includes a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico and a Juris Doctor degree from The University of New Mexico School of Law. She married Gregory Grisham in 1982. They were married until his death from a brain aneurysm in 2004. The couple had two daughters. Lujan Grisham filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her husband's doctor, but the lawsuit was dismissed. She later married Manuel Cordova, a small business owner from Albuquerque, on May 21, 2022, and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris officiated the wedding.
