Dunia Elvir is the anchor of the nightly news program “Noticiero Telemundo 52” in Los Angeles, highlighting her journey from her origin in Honduras to her career in journalism and her commitment to the community.

Born in La Ceiba, Honduras, Dunia Elvir moved to Los Angeles during her teenage years, where she grew up in the Watts neighborhood. Her academic journey included a degree in International Broadcasting from the American Communications Institute, an institution she discovered through a radio advertisement while helping her grandmother clean houses.

Elvir demonstrated determination by earning her Bachelor of Business Administration in 2008 and a Master of Business Administration in 2011 from the University of Phoenix, even though he was working full-time. In addition, she received an Excellence in Journalism Fellowship from the University of Southern California (USC) and a Management Mentor certification from Harvard University’s School of Business.

Her career in journalism began as an intern at KRXQ, FM98, where she performed voiceovers and became a DJ. She also worked as a remote-control operator at the Spanish-language radio station “KWKW La Mexicana” and gained experience in television news production at KRCA-TV, Channel 62.

In 1990, Elvir joined Telemundo 52 and over the years has played various roles, including associate producer, producer and correspondent for Rede Telemundo. In 2008, she returned to KVEA as a reporter and news anchor. Her career continued to evolve, culminating in her role as anchor of the 5 p.m. news program and later the noon program.

Dunia Elvir has not only made a name for herself in the media but has also contributed to the community through her involvement with community service organizations and initiatives. She is a board member of the Wiley Center for Speech and Language Development, which supports children with autism spectrum disorder, as well as being a volunteer teacher at InsideOUT Writers, a Girl Scout troop leader, and an ambassador for the Telemundo 52 station in the March for Babies campaign organized by the March of Dimes.

Dunia Elvir's career is marked by her commitment to journalism, her impressive academic trajectory, and her active involvement in the community. She has also received numerous awards, including GLAAD Media Awards, Golden Mikes Awards, and 13 Emmys, demonstrating her recognition in the field of journalism.
