The opening of the "Latin Americans for Trump" office in Reading, Pennsylvania, marked the beginning of a campaign by former President Donald Trump, in collaboration with the Republican National Committee and the Pennsylvania Republican Party, to boost support among Hispanic voters in a crucial state for the election. The event began with a prayer in Spanish, which left many of the 50 participants, mostly white, at a loss for the “Amen!” at the end.

Luis Fortuno, the former governor of Puerto Rico, emphasized the importance of hard work to achieve the American Dream and called for change by speaking in Spanish to the smaller audience of Spanish speakers. Trump and his Republican allies are trying to woo Hispanic voters by pledging to support entrepreneurship in smaller governments in an attempt to flip the traditionally Democratic support of that group.

Reading, which is a predominantly Latino city, was chosen for the new office. While Biden's approval rating has fallen among Hispanics, it's unclear whether Trump will be able to take advantage of it.

The event in Reading followed the opening of another campaign office in Philadelphia aimed at black voters. In both Philadelphia and Reading, the majority of participants were white. At a recent rally in Las Vegas, Trump asked for everyone's votes, joking about not caring about people, only votes, and made controversial comments aboutimmigrants.

Biden's campaign has criticized Trump for dealing with racist stereotypes and described the new campaign offices as superficial gestures. Biden and the Democrats have a significant presence in Pennsylvania, with multiple offices and ongoing voter mobilization efforts.

While some considered Trump’s efforts propaganda, others, like Berks County Commissioner Michael Rivera, saw it as a recognition of American diversity. Trump's new office in Reading was decorated with posters of support and a merchandise table, drawing mixed reactions from passersby.
