Recently, Republican Senator JD Vance, candidate for the vice presidency of the United States, presented controversial statements regarding the policy of family separation at the border with Mexico. Vance did not rule out the possibility of reviving this policy, implemented during the Trump administration, if he and Trump return to the White House. The practice of family separation, introduced in 2018, has caused the separation of more than 5,000 children from their families, according to NBC News.

Vance compared the separation of families at the border to the arrest of criminals, arguing that in both cases there is family separation, which is tragic but necessary to comply with the law. He has blamed Vice President Kamala Harris for failing to tighten border security, and his and Trump's speech focuses heavily on criticism of Joe Biden's administration's management of immigration.

Trump's family separation policy was seen as a measure to deter illegal immigration. Trump argued that when they learned they would be separated, the migrants would give up trying to cross the border. Even so, the implementation of the policy was chaotic, with difficulties in reunifying children and their parents, an issue that persists to this day, with more than 1,300 children still not reunited with their families, according to NBC.

The post also mentions social media campaigns that bring the accounts of teenagers who have been separated from their families, such as Billy, who described the trauma of being estranged from his father at the border. These testimonies highlight the suffering and difficulties faced by immigrants during this policy.

On the other hand, Kamala Harris continues to oppose family separation, emphasizing a more humane approach and calling for the passage of a bipartisan bill on border security, not including the separation of families.
