In her speech during the 47th Annual CongressionalHispanic Caucus Institute Leadership Conference, Vice President Kamala Harris warned against a possible second presidency of Donald Trump, mentioning that it would result in "mass deportations" and "mass detention camps". Harris also highlighted the importance of immigration reform and advocated for expanding access to health care for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) participants, in addition to reiterating her commitment to ensuring a path to citizenship for the so-called Dreamers, if she wins the election to the presidency.

In the speech, Harris said that it is possible to reconcile border protection with the offer of citizenship to undocumented immigrants. She criticized Trump and his allies for their extremist policies, especially the separation of families during the previous administration and the promise of large-scale deportations.

In addition to immigration, Harris addressed issues related to reproductive health, noting that 40% of Latino women live in states with abortion bans. She underscored the difficulty faced by mothers who need to travel out of state to obtain medical care, reinforcing their fight for abortion rights and middle-class families.

Harris also spoke about the importance of the Latino vote, acknowledging that this demographic was crucial to Joe Biden's election in 2020. However, recent polls show a drop-in Latino support for Biden. Harris is 14 points ahead of Trump among Latino voters, but still faces challenges in swing states like Arizona and Nevada, where many Latinos want a balance between border security and respect for the needs of citizens and legal residents, according to the Latin Times.

Finally, the vice president called for the support of Latino leaders to mobilize voters and advance a political agenda that overcomes division and hatred, emphasizing the role of activism and leadership of the Hispanic community in the future of the country.
