Republican Yesli Vega gets endorses from a large Latino acting group linked to mega-entrepreneur Charles Koch, in the race to represent Virginia's 7th Congressional District in the US House. A former Alexandria City police officer and Prince William County supervisor, Vega is challenging Democratic Representative Abigail Spanberger.

Endorse comes from Libre Initiative Action, a The Libre Initiative campaign arm, which is part of Koch's political network that champions conservative causes in the Latino community. The Koch Industries network is known for pouring millions of dollars into political campaigns by far-right Republican candidates.

“We’re proud to endorse Yesli Vega, a Prince William County Supervisor, and like many in our community, she is the daughter of immigrants. But, most importantly, Vega knows the power of the American Dream and the proper role of government—limited”, said Michael Monrroy, advisor to LIBRE Action-Virginia to The Hill.

The organization's campaign package to run through Election Day in November will feature telephone banking, door-to-door requests for donations, digital advertisements, and host of candidate support events.

On her official website is stated that “Yesli’s decision to enter the world of law enforcement came following a family tragedy perpetrated by local gang members in a case of mistaken identity. This tragedy resulted in a friend losing his life and her brother being severely wounded. The professionalism and care with which the local law enforcement agencies dealt with the situation inspired Yesli to want to give back and help to protect other people in need”.

Vega was born in Houston to Salvadoran parents escaping that country’s civil war, which ran from 1979 to 1992. She grew up in Virginia, where the areas surrounding Washington, D.C. host a large Salvadoran community.

Also on her website, according to The Hill, “Vega says her support for strict border controls stems in part from ‘gangs like MS-13 [that] have been allowed to metastasize and prey on our communities’.”

“Vega has also come out strongly in defense of restrictions on abortion, generating some controversy last month when she said that as a police officer, she had only seen one case of a pregnancy as a result of rape”, as reported by The Hill.

According to Vega’s website, her top issue is what her website labels “checks and balances on the Biden administration”: “As your voice and representative to Washington, Yesli looks forward to fulfilling Congress’s responsibility of being a check and balance on the woefully inept Biden administration. She will be a strong advocate for the timeless American ideals of freedom, limited government, and restoration of the rule of law”.

Michael Monrroy said to The Hill that “he big-government approach and reckless spending are having detrimental effects on our economic opportunities. Vega will work to restore the government to its proper size and scope and restore the American Dream by supporting policies that empower the American people to work together to solve the greatest challenges facing our nation, from the bottom-up”.
