In the balance made in the last month of 2023, the leadership continues with “The Joe Rogan Experience” in the ranking of the most listened to podcasts in the world on Spotify, followed by “Call Her Daddy” and “Huberman Lab”.
The highlight, however, is the presence of five notable productions created by Latinos on the broader list of Spotify Wrapped’s top 25 titles. These podcasts, which originate in Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Spain, stand out among U.S. projects, according to a Latin Times publication.
The analysis points out that the ranking is based on unique users who interact with at least two minutes of an episode, consolidating audiences of podcasts translated into different languages. Despite loss-making operations in the podcast business, Spotify forecasts potential gross margins of 40% to 50% over the next five years, exceeding targets for music.
The Latin Times highlights the remarkable success of Uriel Reyes and his podcast “Relatos de la Noche”, which, started during a period of unemployment, reached first place in Mexico and sixth place globally in 2023. The horror/fiction podcast explores classic Latin American horror stories and urban legends.
Another highlight is Netflix’s audio series “Case 63”, which combines elements of science fiction, pandemics, and mysteries of the human mind. The second season transports listeners to 2012, with an intriguing plot involving Eliza Beatrix Knight.
The publication also covers the podcast “Psicología al desnudo”, led by clinical psychologist Marina Mammoliti, who has become number one in mental health. Started during the 2020 lockdown in Argentina, Mammoliti tackles a variety of topics, offering valuable insights into emotional management.
“La Cotorrisa”, a comedy podcast featuring Mexican comedians José Luis Slobotzky and Ricardo Pérez Becerra, is recommended for anyone looking for more than 55 minutes of laughs. Honesty and transparency are highlighted as basic principles in the production of the program.
Finally, “Se Regalan Dudas” highlights the journey of
hosts Leticia Sahagún and Ashley Frangie, who decided to create a
Spanish-language podcast addressing taboo issues related to sex, mental health,
and love. The podcast, listened to in more than 137 countries, is
praised for tackling universal themes that resonate with Spanish-speaking
audiences.
