Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump in Michigan and Pennsylvania and trails in North Carolina: Survey

Recent polls by the UMass Lowell Center for Public Opinion and YouGov show Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of Donald Trump in the swing states of Michigan and Pennsylvania, but behind in North Carolina, according  to The Hill. In Michigan, Harris leads Trump by 4 points (49% to 45%), while in Pennsylvania, her lead is only 1 point (48% to 47%). In North Carolina, Trump is ahead by 2 points (47% to 45%). All of these margins are within the margin of error.


Michigan voters show greater confidence in Trump to deal with immigration (50% to 42%) but prefer Harris over abortion rights (57% to 32%). Among the state's independents, Trump leads with 44% to 31%. Harris stands out among younger voters, aged 18 to 44, with 53% against 38% for Trump, while Trump has an advantage among voters over 65 (52% to 46%).


In Pennsylvania, voters also favor Trump on immigration (53% to 40%), but Harris leads on abortion (51% to 38%). Among independent voters, Trump has a slight lead (37% to 36%), while Harris maintains the support of 18- to 44-year-olds (54% to 41%). Trump fares better among older voters, leading by 49% to 44%.


In North Carolina, Trump leads on economic issues (49% to 41%) and immigration (52% to 39%), while Harris leads on abortion (50% to 37%). Among the state's independents, Harris has a 10-point lead (35% to 25%). The vice president also leads among young voters (48% to 39%), but Trump is ahead among voters over 65 (55% to 43%).


While Trump is ahead on some key issues in the states, Harris retains a slight national lead of 0.7 percentage points (48.2% to 47.5%), according to the latest tally of polls by The Hill/Decision Desk HQ.
