The poll from the University of California, Berkeley, reveals that a majority of Californians now disapprove of President Joe Biden's job performance. According to the data, 52% of Californians disapprove of his performance, while 44% approve. This is Biden's first record of negative approval in the state.

The poll highlights significant drops in approval among traditional Democratic voters, including women, Latinos, Asian Americans and young people.

According to a report in The Hill, “The decline in the President’s job approval rating since May includes significant declines among the traditional Democratic voting blocs,” Berkeley polling director Mark DiCamillo said in a statement”.

A majority of Californians also disapprove of Biden’s approach to inflation, crime, immigration and the Israel-Hamas conflict. Despite this, in a head-to-head with former President Trump in 2024, Biden still leads in California, but his margin of victory has shrunk compared to 2020, going from about 30 points to just 15 points.

In the 2024 poll, Biden would lead Trump in California by 46% to 31%. The poll surveyed more than 6,000 likely California voters during the last week of October, with an estimated margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
