Édgar Barrera is an American songwriter, producer, and musician based in Miami, Florida. Barrera, also known as Edge, has achieved a total of 22 Latin Grammy Awards and 1 Grammy Award, standing out as “Producer of the Year” in 2021 and 2023, as well as “Songwriter of the Year” in 2023. He is recognized for his contributions to music by diverse artists, spanning multiple genres and languages.
The composer has worked with renowned artists such as Shakira, Karol G, Madonna, Peso Pluma, Maluma, Manuel Turizo, Camilo, Christian Nodal and Grupo Firme, among others. Their collaborations include hits such as “Me Gusta”, “Hawái”, “La Bachata”, “Indigo” and “Botella Tras Botella”. Édgar Barrera has received several nominations over the years at the Latin Grammy ceremonies, standing out as the most nominated musician in 2023.
Barrera’s story includes his journey from his teenage years, when he distributed custom CDs to artists, to landing an internship with composer and producer Andrés Castro in 2010. His versatility and ability to move between different musical genres, including regional Mexican, pop, urban and tropical, are highlighted. In addition, he created the BorderKid label in partnership with Sony Music US Latin, with the aim of launching new artists.
