Congressman Adriano Espaillat is a representative from New York’s 13th Congressional District and is highlighted as the first Dominican-American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing a diverse area that includes Harlem, East Harlem, West Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill, and the northwest Bronx.


First elected in 2016, Espaillat is serving his fourth term in Congress and plays crucial roles on committees and caucuses, including the House Appropriations Committee, the House Budget Committee, and the vice chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC). His official bio highlights his commitment to diverse issues such as living wages, affordable housing, criminal justice reform, infrastructure, youth programs, and educational opportunities.

Prior to his congressional service, Espaillat had a long career in politics, serving as a New York State Senator and being the first Dominican-American elected to a state legislature. He has worked with non-profit organizations such as the New York City Criminal Justice Agency and the Right Start Project, dedicated to substance abuse prevention.
